Pathogens

Hurricane Creek and many of its tributaries were found to have coliform bacteria levels exceeding ten times the state’s recommended limits. The major source of these pathogens appear to be human waste from inadequate sewage treatment plants, overflowing pumping stations, and failing septic systems. The City of Tuscaloosa has been sued and threatened with suits many times in order to force compliance with CWA regulations.
